Metropolitan Utilities District (Omaha): backflow testing rules
Serves Omaha metro, NE. Every point below comes from Metropolitan Utilities District (Omaha)'s own pages, linked; check your notice for your own deadline.
Who must test
- M.U.D. requires backflow preventers installed and tested every year on lawn sprinkler systems that use booster pumps or chemical injection. Source.
- All devices with test ports are tested at installation and at intervals not over one year, except lawn sprinkler devices without a booster pump or chemical equipment. The District itself tests master backflow preventers and high back pressure applications. Source.
Notices and deadlines
- M.U.D. keeps records of backflow tests and issues notices when testing is due. Source.
How the report is filed
- All tests are reported on the District's Backflow Device Test Report form, returned by mail or to backflow@mudnebr.com; unreported tests count as not performed and can get a technician removed from the list. Source.
- The Backflow Device Test Report form says to return it to M.U.D. at 7350 World Communications Drive, Omaha, with contact 402.504.7807 and backflow@mudnebr.com. Source.
Tester registration
- A Certified Backflow Prevention Technician holds a valid Grade VI Water Operator's license from Nebraska DHHS plus any license required by the local plumbing code. Source.
Approved testers
- The District maintains an approved list of certified technicians eligible to work in its service area; technicians send proof of certification to be listed, and tests from unlisted technicians are not accepted. Source.
If a test is missed
- Water service is discontinued if a required assembly is not installed, tested and maintained, or has been bypassed, and is not restored until corrected. Source.
