Milwaukee Water Works: backflow testing rules

Who must test
- The Department of Neighborhood Services inspects multi-family, commercial, industrial and public authority properties for MWW at least every two years; multi-family or condos without a boiler are on a five-year cycle. Source.
- All cross connection control assemblies and devices are maintained and tested in accordance with SPS 382.41 and the Wisconsin Administrative Code. Source.
Notices and deadlines
- DNS sends a notification letter that an inspection is due within the next 30 days, and the owner schedules it online or by phone. Source.
How the report is filed
- MWW uses the testable device record keeping in the State of Wisconsin's ESLA system rather than a separate local portal. Source.
Tester registration
- A person testing fire sprinkler backflow devices must hold both the Wisconsin Cross Connection Control Tester Registration and the Sprinkler Fitter credential. Source.
If a test is missed
- Connections posing an imminent danger are disconnected immediately until corrected and certified; other hazards must be corrected within 30 calendar days. Source.
