Who must test

  • All backflow devices are tested annually by Harpeth Valley Utilities District. Source.
  • A reduced pressure backflow prevention device is required on the service line of all new commercial customers and irrigation systems. Source.

Notices and deadlines

  • Devices are tested right after installation and then annually, or semi-annually for high hazard premises. Source.

How the report is filed

  • After installation, the HVUD Cross Connections Department must be notified to set up an inspection to verify installation and test the backflow preventer. Source.

Fees

  • HVUD's cross-connection control section has trained personnel who test the devices as needed without cost to the customer. Source.

If a test is missed

  • Customers are given thirty days to make cross-connection corrections; on non-compliance HVUD takes immediate steps to discontinue water service until corrections are made. Source.
