Fort Worth Water: backflow testing rules

Serves Fort Worth, TX. Every point below comes from Fort Worth Water's own pages, linked; check your notice for your own deadline.

Who must test

  • Fort Worth requires annual testing of all backflow assemblies on commercial property and all assemblies protecting against health hazards, whatever the property type, by licensed and registered testers. Source.
  • All backflow assemblies must be tested on installation, repair or relocation, and annually after that. Source.
  • Irrigation assemblies that are installed, altered or repaired must be tested by a BPAT registered with the city at VEPO; commercial class irrigation backflows are tested annually. Source.

How the report is filed

  • Fort Worth partners with Vepo, LLC to mail annual testing notices and take test reports online; testers enter results directly into VEPO's password-protected Envirotrax system. Source.

Tester registration

  • All testers must register with Vepo, LLC; after licence, insurance and gauge accuracy reports are verified, the tester joins the approved list. There is currently no cost to register with the City of Fort Worth. Source.
  • Backflow tester registration requires the registration form, TCEQ backflow licence, driver's licence, gauge calibration certificate, and proof of at least $500,000 general liability insurance naming the City of Fort Worth Cross Connection Section as certificate holder. Source.
  • Assemblies on fire sprinkler systems must be tested or repaired by a BPAT who is a full-time employee of a fire sprinkler company licensed with the State Fire Marshal's Office; fire line companies must provide current SCR and RME licences. Source.

Approved testers

  • The program page links a VEPO lookup to find a BPAT registered to work in Fort Worth. not downloaded). Source.

If a test is missed

  • New, relocated, replaced or removed assemblies need a Plumbing Backflow permit; incomplete, missing or inaccurate test reports in VEPO result in a failed inspection. Source.

Finding a tester Fort Worth Water accepts

Fort Worth Water keeps its register of testers in an online lookup on vepollc.com. We link it and do not copy it, because it changes as testers register. Open the lookup. The testers on this site hold a state certificate; registration with Fort Worth Water is a separate step.

Before you book, ask the tester:

  • Are you registered with Fort Worth Water?
  • Will you file the report in VEPO for me, and pay or pass on any filing fee?
  • When is my report due? The date is on your notice; the tester needs time to test, repair if needed and file.
