City of Grand Prairie: backflow testing rules

Who must test

• Most multifamily properties, all commercial and industrial properties, irrigation meters, and single-family homes with irrigation must have backflow assemblies. Source.

Notices and deadlines

• Commercial establishments must have every assembly tested annually during the month the city assigns, by a certified tester registered with the city. Source.

How the report is filed

• Testers enter backflow test reports online in the Tokay web entry system at grandprairie.tokaytest.com. Source.
• Registered testers must submit test results to the city within 7 days of testing. Source.

Tester registration

• Testers register every year with the Public Health and Environmental Quality Department, providing the registration form, TCEQ BPAT license, other licenses including driver's license and any fireline license, and a current gauge calibration report. Source.
• Fire line assemblies may only be tested by a state certified, city registered tester who is a full-time employee of a licensed fireline contractor. Source.

Fees

• Tester registration costs $100, and testers must buy the city's approved test booklet for $25 including tax. Source.
• Each backflow prevention assembly carries an annual nonrefundable registration fee of $35, set by the cross-connection ordinance. Source.

If a test is missed
