City of Hollywood Public Utilities: backflow testing rules

Who must test

• All commercial property owners, plus homes with a dedicated irrigation or fire service or a private well or pond intake, must install backflow devices and recertify them every year. Source.
• Commercial properties needing assemblies include dry cleaners, car washes, restaurants, salons, auto repair shops, funeral parlors and medical offices; multi story buildings and fire or irrigation services need them too. Source.

How the report is filed

• Questions about recertifying existing devices go to the BSI Online Backflow Program (www.bsionlinetracking.com); new installs, repairs and relocations need a city building permit and inspection. Source.

Tester registration

• Backflow assemblies may only be tested or installed by a licensed plumber who is also a certified backflow technician. Source.

If a test is missed

• Customers who do not comply will have water service terminated, as FDEP requires. Source.

Program

• The City of Hollywood runs the FDEP mandated Backflow Prevention and Cross Connection Control Program to protect its drinking water supply. Source.

Finding a tester City of Hollywood Public Utilities accepts

We found no tester list on City of Hollywood Public Utilities's own pages. Use a state certified tester, and check your notice in case it names the testers or the portal it accepts.

Before you book, ask the tester:

• Are you registered with City of Hollywood Public Utilities?
• Will you file the report in BSI Online for me, and pay or pass on any filing fee?
• When is my report due? The date is on your notice; the tester needs time to test, repair if needed and file.

What the badges mean

✓ FL Certified Backflow Tester Verified

A state roster lists at least one certified tester at this business, with a current certificate. The state sets the exam and renewal.

✓ FL Utility-Approved Tester Verified On the city list

The company is on a water utility's own approved list (the second badge names the list). That is the utility's approval, not a state license, and it counts for that utility.
