Orlando Utilities Commission: backflow testing rules

Serves Orlando, FL. Every point below comes from Orlando Utilities Commission's own pages, linked; check your notice for your own deadline.

Who must test

  • Backflow prevention devices must be tested annually, for both residential and commercial customers. Source.
  • For residential customers, OUC tests and maintains the device with no scheduling needed by the homeowner. Source.

Tester registration

  • Commercial customers maintain their own devices; they can have OUC test annually or use their own plumber for installation, repairs and testing. Installation and testing must be done by individuals properly licensed by the State of Florida. Source.

Fees

  • Starting the month of installation, residential bills carry a $4 per month fee covering annual inspection and maintenance. Source.
  • When OUC performs the commercial test, it costs $48 a year for 5/8 inch through 4 inch devices and $110 a year for 6 inch and above. Source.

If a test is missed

  • Failure to comply with testing requirements may result in termination of water service. Source.

Program

  • Following FDEP rules, OUC is installing backflow prevention devices on residential properties that lack one, at no cost to homeowners. Source.

How to file your backflow test with Orlando Utilities Commission

  1. Read your notice. It names the assembly, its location and the date the report is due.
  2. Book a tester Orlando Utilities Commission accepts. See finding a tester below; book early so there is time to repair a failed assembly.
  3. The tester tests the assembly and fills in the test report. A failed assembly is repaired and tested again.
  4. The report is filed. Ask the tester how they send it to the utility, and get a copy.
  5. Fees. Starting the month of installation, residential bills carry a $4 per month fee covering annual inspection and maintenance. Source.
  6. Keep a copy and set a reminder for next year. Set a free test-due reminder.

Finding a tester Orlando Utilities Commission accepts

We found no tester list on Orlando Utilities Commission's own pages. Use a state certified tester, and check your notice in case it names the testers or the portal it accepts.

Before you book, ask the tester:

  • Are you registered with Orlando Utilities Commission?
  • Will you send the test report to the utility for me, and how?
  • When is my report due? The date is on your notice; the tester needs time to test, repair if needed and file.

What the badges mean
✓ FL Certified Backflow Tester Verified
A state roster lists at least one certified tester at this business, with a current certificate. The state sets the exam and renewal.
✓ FL Utility-Approved Tester Verified On the city list
The company is on a water utility's own approved list (the second badge names the list). That is the utility's approval, not a state license, and it counts for that utility.
3 certified testers
How many certified testers the roster lists at this business.
★ 4.8 (25 reviews)
The Google rating, shown as Google reports it. It does not change the order.
