City of Round Rock: backflow testing rules

Who must test

• High hazard devices, typically non-residential such as hospitals, restaurants and industry, plus residential pools with auto-fill, must be tested every year. Source.
• Low hazard devices, typically residential irrigation, must be tested once every 7 years; residential fire sprinkler backflow devices without added chemicals are also on a 7 year cycle. Source.

Notices and deadlines

• The city sends test notices through BSI Online to residents and businesses 30 days before the testing due date; the notice carries a Customer Confirmation Number for the tester. Source.

How the report is filed

• Testers submit all test reports for existing and replacement devices through BSIOnlineTracking.com; new installation reports stay on the assembly for Building Inspection. Source.

Tester registration

• To be an approved tester in Round Rock, a tester registers on BSI Online and provides proof of TCEQ licensing and that their test equipment holds calibration within plus or minus 0.2 psid; reports are rejected if license and gauge information are not current. Source.

Fees

• Testers pay $12.95 for each test report submitted through BSI Online; this does not apply to new installations. Source.

Approved testers

• Round Rock links a list of Registered Backflow Testers (PDF dated 6.29.26). Not downloaded. Source.

If a test is missed

• If a device is not tested in time, the city has it tested and charges a $75 fee plus the actual test cost to the water bill. Source.
• A device that fails its test must be repaired and retested within 30 days. Source.
