Who must test
- Commercial and multi-family residential customers must install a backflow prevention assembly matched to the hazard at the property. Source.
- Single family residential customers must install a backflow prevention assembly on any irrigation system on their property. Source.
- After installation, the customer must maintain the backflow preventer and test it every year. Source.
- Backflow preventers must be installed on the customer side of all water meters, at the connection or before the first point of use; inside installations need prior approval. Source.
Tester registration
- The brochure lists other testing agencies accepted by the state and DeKalb: ASSE, ABPA and the University of Florida TREEO Center. Source.
Approved testers
- DeKalb does not keep an approved tester list; testers are licensed by the state or third-party bodies, and GAWP keeps the list of testers certified under the Georgia Statewide Backflow Prevention Assembly Certification Program (GBPAT). Source.
