Who must test
- A certified tester must test each backflow prevention assembly on installation, after cleaning, repair or overhaul, when relocated, annually, and when the regulator requires it. Installation, maintenance and testing are the customer's responsibility. Source.
- Backflow prevention assemblies must be within 36 inches of the water meter unless the department directs otherwise, and the assembly type must match the hazard on the premises. Source.

Approved testers
- EPCOR publishes a Certified Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester List. Listed companies have shown certification, gauge calibration, at least $1 million liability insurance and a state contractor's licence. Source.
