Clackamas River Water: backflow testing rules

Who must test

• Backflow prevention assemblies must be tested at least annually by a State certified tester; cross connections include lawn sprinklers, fire sprinklers, and auxiliary private water systems. Source.

Notices and deadlines

• Under CRW Ordinance 01-2015, assemblies are tested at the customer's expense at least once a year on a date set by CRW, and a copy of the test results must be supplied to CRW by the tester or customer. Source.

How the report is filed

• CRW has joined SwiftComply for backflow data tracking and test report submissions and encourages testers to register, ahead of mandatory online test report entry into its SwiftComply database. Source.

Tester registration

• CRW encourages all backflow test companies and testers to register with SwiftComply (registration form at sc-tester.com), which will allow future mandatory online report entry. Source.

If a test is missed

• As needed, CRW contracts a State of Oregon certified tester or repair company to bring the assembly into compliance, and the customer pays those costs plus overhead. Fines, penalties, or termination of service may also be used. Source.
• Failure to comply with backflow requirements within the requested time may result in termination of water service; non-health hazard situations may get 30 to 120 day compliance schedules. Source.
