Joint Municipal Water and Sewer Commission: backflow testing rules
Serves Lexington County, SC. Every point below comes from Joint Municipal Water and Sewer Commission's own pages, linked; check your notice for your own deadline.
Who must test
- JMWSC requires all water service connections that present a potential hazard to install and maintain a backflow prevention assembly meeting its specifications. Source.
- Since July 2004 JMWSC requires all new residential meters, with or without irrigation, to have a double check valve assembly. Source.
How the report is filed
- The JMWSC backflow test form lists email BACKFLOW@LCJMWSC.COM and fax (803) 359-6553 for returns. Source.
Fees
- Commercial customers can sign an annual testing agreement for JMWSC to test the assembly each year, with charges added to the account per the Commission's rate schedule; failed devices must be repaired and retested by a tester of the customer's choice. Source.
Approved testers
- The program page links SC DES for certified testers rather than a JMWSC list. List: des.sc.gov (state page, not a utility roster). Source.
Program
- JMWSC runs a Cross Connection Control Program to identify and eliminate cross connections that could contaminate the distribution system. Source.
