Evansville Water and Sewer Utility: backflow testing rules

Who must test

• Owners of homes or properties with a lawn sprinkler or irrigation system must have the backflow preventer inspected every year. Source.
• The installation and annual testing of backflow devices are required by the City of Evansville and the State of Indiana; residential devices include irrigation, wet fire systems, boilers, pools and water features. Source.

How the report is filed

• The tester hangs a tag with results on or near the device, then submits results to EWSU through Aqua Backflow at aquabackflow.com/trackmybackflow. Source.

Tester registration

• A contractor not on the registered list must register with EWSU at trackmybackflow.com before performing backflow tests. Source.

Approved testers

• EWSU publishes a list of registered testers in its area directly on the program page (HTML, no separate file), without endorsement. Source.

If a test is missed

• Failure to have the backflow preventer inspected annually violates federal, state and local regulations and may result in fines. Source.

Program

• EWSU works in partnership with Aqua Backflow to implement and oversee the Cross Connection Program, including backflow testing. Source.
